About Jen

Hello! I am Jen-self-proclaimed Mermaid with a love for travel, adventure, fitness and health, and, of course, anything ocean-related.    My love for travel and food began at a young age.  I began life as an “Army brat”- my Dad was an Army pilot- and at age five our family moved to Germany.  We were blessed to be able to travel not only through Germany but into France (I have French family), Austria, and Switzerland.  Traveling by car allowed us to see the natural beauty of these countries, as well as interact with the people of these countries, especially since most of our travels included camping.  Though I was young, I have wonderful, vivid memories of these places, people, and even the food we ate.  And so the love affair began…Our family returned home to Texas, and family adventures took us on camping trips throughout the Rocky Mountains, along with road trips to see family on the East Coast.

As I grew older, I found my calling to be a Physical Therapist, and in 1999 I began that career.  Over the years, my passions for fitness and health blossomed as I helped my patients learn how to overcome injuries and maximize their function and wellness.  As for myself, I found a love for fitness and nutrition, with running being my sport of choice, and over the years was able to complete three marathons.

In 2002, I was able to merge my career with my love of travel, and entered the world of Travel Physical Therapy.  I completed assignments all over the country, and was fortunate to meet many good friends along the way.  I eventually settled down in Arizona, where I met my husband Patrick.  Here, I continued my career as a Physical Therapist, but also developed a growing passion for natural health and wellness through nutrition. My meandering path has found us living in Portland, Oregon, and currently in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“But, why on Earth do you call yourself a Mermaid, “ you ask?  Since childhood I have been absolutely in love with the sea.  Growing up, we took trips to the Texas coast often, and as an adult I have visited different beaches and islands as often as my land-locked life would allow.  It was a great joy to eventually become a scuba diver, allowing me to be surrounded by the ocean life I have always adored.  My soul has always felt a deep longing to be near the ocean, and no matter where I find myself “beached,” this remains.

Throughout the journey, my love of travel, food, wellness, the ocean, and God have continued to grow and flourish.  It is my desire to share my passions with you through this blog.  Enjoy!
